Japan Eyes Thailand as ASEAN’s Textile and Garment Production Base

Bangkok: Japan has expressed its support for Thailand to become ASEAN’s textile and garment manufacturing base thanks to the country’s capacity for integrated production, while textile and garment business operators see Japan and ASEAN countries as promising markets to compensate the continuing decrease in exports to USA and Europe.

Rubber price rise augurs well for Vietnam

Since July rubber export prices have bounced back strongly after remaining low for long, the Vietnam Rubber Association said.


At the beginning of August, the price at the Mong Cai Border Gate in the northern province of Quang Ninh touched US$1700 a ton, $200 higher than in July and $450 higher than in June.

China's plastics industry sees signs of recovery

China's plastics industry is expecting a new wave of market recovery after witnessing healthy progress in the first half of the year.

According to a recent market report produced jointly by China National Light Industry Information Center (CNLIIC), China Plastics Processing Industry Association (CPPIA) and Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE), production volumes, sales, imports/exports and company efficiency have been improving steadily in the first half of this year.

RP imports slow down for ninth straight month

Philippine imports in June contracted by more than a fifth, the ninth consecutive month that purchased goods from abroad slumped.

The National Statistics Office on Tuesday said imports in June dropped 22.8 per cent to about $4.108 billion.
